INYGMA
Founded in 1994, the Indian Naturopathy & Yoga Graduates’ Medical Association (INYGMA) was re-launched in the year 2006 and is the only national professional association representing licensed (registered) naturopathic and yoga physicians.
The INYGMA promotes naturopathy and yoga to the public, corporations, central and state governments and facilitates communication within the yoga and naturopathic profession. INYGMA aims to increase awareness of and expand access to qualified physicians, help its members build successful medical practices and expand the body of yoga naturopathic medical research. INYGMA is committed to advancing yoga and naturopathic education, training and research, and the professional development of its members.
INYGMA’s physician members are graduates of yoga and naturopathic medical colleges (currently there are 19 medical colleges imparting BNYS degree in the country) affiliated to several state medical universities and recognized by state AYUSH medical practitioners’ boards.
BNYS- Bachelor of Naturopathy &Yogic Sciences- is a medical degree in the field of integrated yoga and naturopathic medicine. The curriculum is of five and half year duration regular medical program, including one year of compulsory medical internship.
INYGMA has 17 State Chapters and several overseas chapters including- Nepal, Australia, New Zealand, UAE, West Indies, USA and UK. BNYS Graduates practice in good number overseas and are eligible to be licensed in Nepal, UAE, Virgin Islands (UK), Qatar, Australia and New Zealand. Currently there are about 3500 BNYS Graduates in the country.
INYGMA is a founding member organization of the World Naturopathic Federation, launched in 2014.
Naturopathy
Naturopathy is a system of man building in harmony with the constructive principles of Nature on physical, mental, moral and spiritual planes of living. It has great health promotive, disease preventive and curative as well as restorative potential.
Fasting
Fasting means Total Rest; Physical, Physiological, Sensory and Mental rest, which includes voluntary total abstinence from intake of any kind of food, solid or liquid, that demands digestion, except water, for a definite purpose and period of time. Fasting trigger the adaptive cellular responses elicits highly orchestrated systemic and cellular responses which have impacts on both physical and mental health , as well as in disease resistance and healing.
Nutrition
Nutrition is a basic human need and a prerequisite to a healthy life. A proper diet is essential from the very early stages of life for proper growth, development and to remain active. Food consumption, which largely depends on production and distribution, determines the health and nutritional status of the population. The recommended dietary allowances (RDA) are nutrient-centred and technical in nature
Yoga
Yoga is an Art and Scince of healthy living. It is a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science, which focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body. The holistic approach of Yoga is well established and it brings harmony in all walks of life and thus, known for disease prevention, promotion of health and management of many lifestyle –related disorders.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient system of health and wellness that is been used in China for thousands of years. It comprises various body and mind practices that aims at holistic health. TCM in itself is a complete system of medicine. It is included under Naturopathy as one of the treatment module mainly because of it's similarity in the basic principle. Both works on the balance and harmony of energy.
